The preparations are just about complete for the next phase of my life – that of the roaming nomad, bereft of the usual comforts of home, traveling from one watering hole to the next, searching for who knows what. Only the last few items need to be packed and protected against the vagaries of the road, and I’ll begin loading my car tomorrow (Monday). Even with the inevitable setback, the loading should be completed by tomorrow night allowing me to kick this hare-brained scheme off on Tuesday, December 1.
For those unfamiliar with the madness I call life, I am giving up this lovely apartment in the Bronx and moving into my car, a 1989 Volvo station wagon, and driving around the country – South to Florida, West to Cali, and North to BC – living out of the back along with some nights in a tent and the occasional splurge in a cheap motel. I’ll be taking along only what I can travel with, and my dog Spider and his GF Baby (the cat with him in my profile pic). Along the way, I’ll be stopping wherever it looks interesting and only have one deadline to make – July 2 near Kelowna, BC for my dad’s birthday.
As soon as I can, I’ll get a wireless adapter for this computer and get you all caught up on the adventure. If it goes to plan – and really that’s why I keep the plan simple so it has a chance at success, lol – I should be back online within a couple days.
Those of you in the NYC area who I haven’t had a chance to get out and see before I leave, I’m sorry and I have every intention of being back here late next summer as this is really as close to home as I have. It’s been an arduous process wrapping up 21 years in NYC and 13 in this apartment. Hopefully I”ll bring back some of the love of the city and life that I seem to have misplaced along the way, and which I hope to recover.
Oh, and if you’re not that interested in hearing all the minutiae of this adventure, just let me know and I’ll take you off the list. No sweat, we still cool.
Anywho, wish me luck, and if you’re on the way and want me to stop by for a cup of coffee or somethin, let me know.
